Members: during May and June we’re conducting a special promotion. As we add new members to our club, it enriches our experience — because, with Toastmasters, we’re always learning from each other, right?
So here’s the news:
The member who brings the most guests during May (whether or not they join), will win two $5 gift cards.
The member who brings the most guests during June (whether or not they join), will win two $5 gift cards.
The cards are from vendors like Starbucks, Roosters Eatery (our cafeteria), Dutch Brothers, and Barnes & Noble.
Thanks for helping River Speakers be a growing and dynamic club.
May 2016 is shaping up to be a great month to attend a meeting at River Speakers Toastmasters club. Look at this:
May 5 (Cinco De Mayo), with Cathy as our meeting Toastmaster, will see member Melanie give her 10th CC speech — a culmination of all the skills learned in the Competent Communicators manual and the final task before she achieves her CC award.
Not to be outdone, James will be giving his 10th CC speech the next week, May 12. These are wonderful opportunities to see the growth one can achieve by focus, practice, and the warm and supportive feedback of fellow members.
In addition to James’s speech, we are truly honored to welcome a very special guest speaker to our May 12 Open House meeting. Ken Nixon ACB ALB, president of the Blue Cross of Idaho Toastmasters Club, has been a Toastmaster since 2007.
Several River Speakers officers remember Ken from the time we were all members of the neighboring Food For Thought Toastmasters club — and know what sort of a treat we’re in for. Ken is someone whose speeches you remember, and a generous, insightful, and encouraging fellow Toastmaster.
And as May 12 is an Open House meeting, we’re planning for free food and prizes. It’s not a meeting to miss, if you’re a member, and a great time to bring a guest along (or yourself, if you’ve not been in a while and/or are curious about what Toastmasters is all about).
May 19: we vote!
During our third meeting of May we’ll be voting for club officers. Thus far we have members interested in all roles except for that quiet but critical role of Sergeant At Arms, so please let us know if you might be willing to serve River Speakers in this role.
May is a month of growth. Join with us at River Speakers and see the opportunities!
What does that mean? For you, it means you want to set a date for our meeting this Thursday, Oct. 29, when we’ll receive physical acknowledgement of the chartering status we were granted the beginning of July: our District is bestowing our Toastmasters banner which will flag all our meetings from this point forward. Member (and District 15 officer) Donna Oswald will be presenting.
We’ll also be hearing another Speech #10 (which marks completion of the Competent Communicator manual) from Don
Melanie is putting together treats and snacks
We’ll be hearing via Skype from our District 15 leader, Steve Piet
You’re encouraged to bring your lunch (eat & listen!)
Note we’re in a different location for this meeting only. Come to Plaza IV (that’s 800 E Park Blvd. for folks outside the complex), walk past the guard desk, and look for signage to direct you to Conference Room 1CR5.
Thanks to all who came to our Informational Meeting and question-and-answer meeting on Thursday, April 2.
If you’re on our mailing list, you had an opportunity to vote on our meeting day-of-the-week. Tuesday very narrowly won out over Thursday. (If you’re disappointed, please note that all members will vote again at the time we charter.)
Meanwhile, as promised, our first meeting will take place starting at noon in our usual meeting place. We hope you join us. You may bring food (and thanks again to NNU for donating their classroom for our use). Anyone in the Washington Group complex, neighbors, members of other clubs, and any other interested parties are welcome.
